Bryson City is in the path of totality for the Solar Eclipse on Aug. 21 and the town is going crazy for this event. Solar Fever will take over Bryson City starting Friday, Aug. 18 with a free outdoor movie and continuing through the weekend with free live music concerts, free planetarium programs and outdoor activities. 
 
“Eclipse Man” will be available for photos and businesses are participating with solar-themed specials, food and drink. 
 
Follow the posters for an Eclipse Crawl to downtown merchants who will be wearing custom t-shirts for the event and offering fun drinks, food and specials themed for the eclipse.
 
The Visitor Center will be Totality Central with info sheets as well as maps to multiple eclipse viewing locations, 11am-3pm on Monday. Enjoy a free Block Party at the Depot and at the Swain County Event Park just outside of town (small parking fee). Or take a Great Smoky Mountains Railroad Eclipse Train ride to a viewing location. Bryson City is the place to be for the Solar Eclipse!

FRIDAY
 
Dusk. Free, live music at Riverfront Park, which has a large, grassy lawn in front of an outdoor stage. Enjoy sitting at one of the picnic tables or bring a lawn chair or blanket for the grass. 101 Mitchell St. across from train parking and turntable.
 
SATURDAY 
 
10 am - 4 pm. Enjoy a free, full-dome planetarium experience at the Fire Department on Main Street. Experience the universe (digital video projections in inflatable dome). Sponsored by Marianna Black Library. (donations welcomed)
 
10 am - 10 pm. Swain County Agricultural Fair – County Fair complete with judged entries, agricultural demos, petting zoo, bounce house, craft vendors, food trucks and bands. Darnell Farms (US 19 east of Bryson City). 
 
7 -9 pm. Free, live music at Riverfront Park, which has a large, grassy lawn in front of an outdoor stage. Enjoy sitting at one of the picnic tables or bring a lawn chair or blanket for the grass. 101 Mitchell St. across from train parking and turntable.
 
SUNDAY
 
10 am - 10 pm. Appalachian Festival – County Fair style festival complete with petting zoo, bounce house, agricultural demos, craft vendors, food trucks and bands. Darnell Farms (US 19 east of Bryson City).

11 am - 3 pm. Bryson City offers a number of excellent open viewing locations, such as:
 
RR DEPOT - Block party with live music featuring Grandpa's Cough Medicine, blazing bluegrass tempos (11 - 1 pm) and The Company Stores, modern Appalachian rock and blues band (1 - 3 pm).
 
SWAIN COUNTY EVENT PARK (live music, food trucks, portable toilets). Musicians include Andrew Scotchie & The River Rats (rock/blues/funk), and Leeda 'Lyric' Jones (5-piece rock/funk/soul band). 1130 Hyatt Creek Road (exit 69 off US 74; or take US 19 toward Cherokee and turn right onto Hyatt Creek Road at East Elementary). Parking fee ($10, $20 or $40 depending on size of car/van/bus), includes viewing glasses for everyone in the vehicle.
 
DARNELL FARMS - Open fields. Viewing glasses available. Inflatables for the kids, live music, food vendors. 50 primitive campsites available on first-come, first-served basis (no hook-ups available). 828-736-8047. US 19 east of Bryson City.
 
ROLLING THUNDER RIVER COMPANY - Fully guided rafting trip on the Nantahala, viewing glasses, riverside brunch & photo CD.
 
RIVERFRONT PARK - Live music. 
 
SOLAR ECLIPSE TENT CAMPING - Family field open for camping. Nightly bonfire, snow cones, clean porta potties, music, children's activities, on-site security and more. 1031 Arlington Avenue. (take Hughes Branch Rd at Ingles Grocery) 828-736-7112.
